10 Painkiller Facts Your Doctor Doesn’t Know About

By now you know that the painkiller Vioxx is deadly. That wasn’t always the case.

Prior to its release, The New York Times told patients that, “Two large drug companies say they have developed a new class of drugs that can relieve pain and inflammation without the gastrointestinal side effects of current drugs.”

Advertising in disguise, the new pain killers were positioned as safer alternatives for the 13 million Americans who take Tylenol and non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, naproxen and dicolfenac. The article cleverly pointed out that among NSAID users, “76,000 are hospitalized each year for ulcers caused by the drugs, and about 7,600 die from those ulcers. About one in three people who take the drugs for long periods ends up with gastrointestinal bleeding. The large studies have found no such complications with the new drugs.”

In 2004, FDA scientist Dr. Graham testified that Vioxx elicited 55,000 premature deaths from heart attacks and stroke during its reign as “the safer alternative.” That’s the equivalent of the Twin Towers tragedy happening 18 times!

Where’s the war on painkillers? Where were the doctors to warn patients?

Today, a barrage of pain meds are still on the market, which carry serious risks to the entire family. Here are 10 facts your doctor doesn’t know about.

Fact #1: Child Overdose is Far Too Common

It’s very easy for children to overdose on Tylenol. The difference between a “dose” and a fatal “overdose” is small. If children take twice the normal dose – a very small margin of error – liver damage will result.

Fact #2: Painkillers are adulterated with Cancer Causing Toxins

Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl & Sudafed contain trace amounts of cancer causing compounds such as mannitol, lactose, sorbitol, sucrose, and inositol, FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Yellow No. 6, FD&C Red No.3, FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Blue No. 2, FD&C Green No. 3, a limited number of D&C colorants, and iron oxides.

Fact #3: Liver and Kidney Damage is Common

According to The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, 50,000 people per year are treated in an emergency room for serious liver and kidney damage, or even failure, caused by Tylenol and NSAIDS.

Fact #4: Motrin causes more Headaches

Motrin’s side effects include: constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, gas and HEADACHE.

How do you know if your headache is the one you started with or a side effect?

Fact #5: Tylenol Causes Headaches and More

Tylenol’s side effects include: constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; excitability; HEADACHE; loss of appetite; nausea; nervousness or anxiety; trouble sleeping; upset stomach; vomiting and weakness.

Pick any 6 of those and ask yourself if you really want them all happening at the same time, instead of just having your original headache…But again, how do you know if your headache is the one you started with or a side effect?

Fact #6: Experts are no longer recommending Aspirin

According to The Wall Street Journal, “…Medical experts say some people who are taking aspirin on a regular basis should think about stopping….The concern is that aspirin’s side effects, which can include bleeding ulcers, might outweigh the potential benefits when taken by many healthy or older people.”

Fact #7: Tylenol Is The #1 Cause of Liver Failure

According to Dr. Gerald Dal Pan, Director of the FDA’s Office of Surveillance and Epidemiology, Tylenol and Acetaminophen overdose is the number one cause of “acute” (sudden) liver failure in the US.

You can’t live without a liver for more than about a day, so if it fails you fail.

Fact #8: Easy for Adults to Overdose

Discussing the overdose potential of common painkillers, Dr. Pan says, “It is much easier than you would think!” He explains that anyone on a “diet,” suffering from long term pain, or drinking alcohol or caffeine regularly, and taking the suggested dose of acetaminophen (including Tylenol, Lortab, Percocet or Vicoden) is at risk of suffering from liver damage, over time!

Fact #9: Babies Don’t Take Aspirin To Avoid Heart Attack

Taking a “baby aspirin,” or even and adult one, won’t save you from heart disease! In fact, as shown in Over-The-Counter Natural Cures, it will decrease your chances of survival! If you want to learn the real way to avoid heart and stroke, pick up a copy of the book at Amazon.com, Target, Walmart or anywhere else books are sold!

Fact #10: OxyContin Kills More People Than Crack Cocaine and Heroin Combined

In Ohio, fatal OxyContin overdoses more than quadrupled in ten years. It surpassed car crashes as the leading cause of accidental death, according to the Department of Health. OxyContin drug addiction is now killing more people than crack cocaine in the 1980s and heroin in the 1970’s, combined! OxyContin was only approved for searing cancer pain. Outside of that, nobody should be using it, and doctors shouldn’t be prescribing it.
